DTA (Dry Tech Aerogels) actively processes a mineral (a specific type of volcano mineral) from a unique deposit in South Africa, to a cationic filter medium. Being much harder and more porous than most other minerals, Atom8 Cationic Mineral Ore is ideally suited for producing some remarkable eco-friendly products in applications such as:
– Pollution-control
– Water treatment
– Swimming pool & Pond filtration

Water Production Process Steps – Why use our filtration consumables?
Water needs to be filtered to ensure safe drinking and to conform to stringent health regulations around the world. In the case of process water, filtration is used to assure uncontaminated water entering the eco system. Even if there is pollution upstream, our filtration products help to ensure
safe water. Atom8 Cationic Filter is a specific type of a mineral exclusively made and modified by DTA in South Africa. It is a direct substitute for filter medium used for fish pond, tap water, underground water, swimming pool water and drinking water. This filter scavenges toxic ammonia, heavy metals, fluorides, bad bacteria and viruses from any water source. It is a true 21st century filter medium with both ion exchange and superior mechanical filtration properties.
Cationic Filter Medium Applications:
– Used in the filtration of water supplies and sewage effluent
– Acts as a molecular sieve which absorbs cations
– Making hard water soft water, remove nitrates.
– Retains water and nutrients when added to soil and then acts as a slow release fertilizer.
This is used effectively in golf course maintenance
– Inhibits algae growth in ponds and dams
– Removes heavy metals in acid mine drainage
– Similar minerals were used in the nuclear clean-up of Three Mile Island and Chernobyl nuclear disasters
– Filter underground water to perfection (bore holes)
– Cleans tap water for drinking
– Cleans Industrial effluent water
– Cationic is a direct substitute for outdated filter sand or glass in swimming pool filters
– Absorbs ammonia
– Reduces your pool's chlorine demand
– Eliminates the "Chloramine devil" in your pool
– No more red, burning eyes
– No more unpleasant "chlorine smell"
– Absorbs and holds harmful heavy metals such as lead
– It can be regenerated and used over again
Application Method
– Remove sand from filter and clean filter
– Add Cationic filter medium as per indication of filter medium level
– Back wash Cationic filter medium properly until clean water comes out
– Pools: Ensure correct PH level
– Pools: Put filter system on filtering
– Pools: Add pool stabiliser (cyan uric acid)
– Pools: Add ½ cup chlorine per week.
Technology
Cationic minerals, like other mesoporous materials (e.g. MCM-41), are widely used as catalysts in the petrochemical industry, such as in fluid catalytic cracking and hydrocracking. The cationic mineral confines molecules into small spaces, which causes changes in their structure and reactivity. The acidic forms of cationic minerals prepared are often powerful solid-state solid acids, facilitating a host of acid-catalysed reactions, such as isomerisation, alkylation, and cracking. Cationic minerals have uses in advanced nuclear-waste reprocessing methods, where their micro-porous ability to capture some ions while allowing others to pass freely allows many fission products to be efficiently removed from the waste and permanently trapped. Equally important are the mineral properties of these cationic minerals. Their alumina-silicate construction is extremely durable and resistant to radiation, even in porous form. Additionally, once they are loaded with trapped fission products, the cationic mineral-waste combination can be hot pressed into an extremely durable ceramic form, closing the pores and trapping the waste in a solid stone block. This is a waste form factor that greatly reduces its hazard, compared to conventional reprocessing systems. Cationic minerals are also used in the management of leaks of radioactive materials. For example, in the aftermath of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, sandbags of cationic minerals were dropped into the seawater near the power plant to adsorb the radioactive caesium that was present in high levels.
Honey cone structure of Cationic Metal Organic Frame Work
This information highlights how the current understanding of the mechanisms and factors influencing negatively charged viruses and bacteria adsorption can be used to interpret and control their behaviour in the environment. An understanding of factors controlling the interaction has already led to new and improved methods for the concentration of viruses and bacteria from water, and their isolation from the environment. Our specially developed Atom8 Cationic Filter Medium has positively charged atoms. Cationic means positively charged atoms. Metal Organic Framework structures (MOF) are extremely small and have a honey cone formation that will trap and encapsulate any negatively charged virus and bacteria, allowing clean water to pass through the system.
Future development
DTA has currently developed the Atom8 Cationic Filter Medium to replace any filter medium in any sand filters with our Cationic Filter Medium. We are currently in the process with a Cationic Ceramic Nano Mineral for inline filtration of house, factory and large water cleaning systems. The first tests would be ready early March 2021.
Important to know!
When Chlorine gas, Hypochlorite’s or Chlor-Isocyanates are added to water, two important chemical species are produced: Hypochlorite Ions (OCI) and Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL). Hypochlorous Acid
only exists below 8,3 PH and is the dominant chlorine species in water below 7,4 PH. This is the reason that pool PH values have to be adjusted into a narrow PH band for chlorine based biocides to work effectively as well for the Cationic Filter Medium, therefore PH levels should be checked regularly. The use of a pool stabiliser (cyan uric acid) will ensure the accomplishment to remain into the correct PH band. Standing water’s PH changes generally by losing carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide in water is weakly acidic and if it is lost to the air this causes PH rise. The result is that pool water PH never remains optimal, it always moving the wrong way. For economical disinfection with the Atom8 Cationic Filter Medium, ammonia and its compounds must be removed from water continuously. The presence of ammonia, nitrogen and phosphorous in pool water leads to the development of algae, black and green varieties. Thunder activity produces atmospheric nitrates which enter rainwater and hence the green pool water. Together with the ammonia compounds these nutrients allow rapid algal development, leading to green pools and high chlorine demand. In short no ammonia leads to no algae. We recommend to use a ½ cup chlorine per week and to use pool stabiliser once a year in swimming pools and display fountains.
